Culinary Weekend Adventure in Salida

Colorado Culinary Weekend Adventure in Salida

A favorite fall activity is short road trips around Colorado. I hosted my first weekend event in Salida, and it was a blast! Five guests took part in the weekend culinary event and enjoyed hiking and biking in and around the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The weather was in the low 70’s, perfect fall weather. The leaves were starting to turn golden yellow and red.

We enjoyed two artfully crafted homecooked dinners and two scrumptious breakfasts; recipes will post soon. The highlight of the trip was the Historic Food and Distillery Walking Tour. As we strolled downtown through the eclectic neighborhoods, I spoke about Salida’s colorful Wild West past. Did you know Salida condoned open prostitution until 1949?

These and other bits of history were woven into the tour as we sampled food at Amica’s Pizza and The Fritz. We then ventured to The Biker and The Baker to sample a delectable selection of Lemon Raspberry Cake, Espresso Mouse Cups, and tarts. The last stop was Wood’s Distillery where we learned about the distilling process and sampled five different libations. And yes, after that, my guests did have to help me finish up dinner back at the accommodations.

Salida is one of two newly designated Creative Districts in Colorado, and the local artists were hosting a studio tour where patrons could learn about their craft.

The home I rented on VRBO was ideal for 6-8 people and well equipped.  Le
