In this full review, I will take you through my experience at the Mt Princeton Hot Springs.

I start off with the facilities as I enjoy this haven of tranquility, where the rich history, therapeutic waters, and awe-inspiring surroundings blend harmoniously to create an experience that left me positively enchanted.

The History and Significance of Mt. Princeton Hot Springs

Native American tribes revered the hot springs as sacred and believed in their healing properties. These indigenous peoples, including the Ute and Apache, frequented the area for medicinal and spiritual purposes, leaving behind a legacy of reverence for the thermal waters.

With the westward expansion in the 19th century, European settlers discovered the hot springs and recognized their potential for relaxation and therapeutic benefits.

The site quickly gained popularity as a stopover for weary travelers and those seeking respite in the soothing waters.

My Experience At the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs In Colorado

Over the years, Mount Princeton Hot Springs evolved into a sought-after destination for wellness and leisure. Several lodges and resorts were built to accommodate the growing influx of visitors, with each generation adding modern amenities while preserving the natural charm of the area.

Whether you aim for a relaxing, adults only soak or adventurous family fun on the  water slide, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs has something for everyone.

The Pools And Creek

Mt.PrincetonSpaPools

There are several sections to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs; a Spa side for ages 16 and up, a family friendly historic bathhouse with large pool and creek side soaking, an infinity pool, and a 400 foot water slide.

The pools are heated by Geothermal heat bubbling up from the ground and range in temperatures from 101 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit. As with most hot springs in Colorado, the pools at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are non-sulfurous and odorless.

The drive into the hot springs is spectacular with majestic views of two of Colorado’s most prestigious 14,000-foot peaks, Mt. Princeton and Mt. Antero.

The hot springs are nestled at the base of these mountains surrounded by Fir and Pine Trees providing the optimal environment while relaxing in the soothing mineral waters.

I personally like soaking in the Creekside pools in Chalk Creek with geothermal waters bubbling up next to the ice cold creek rushing by, it’s truly a unique experience.

There are several small pools at varying temperatures so you can find one the suits you best.

The Food and Dining Options At The Mt. Princeton Resort

Dining options at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs range from a fine dining experience at the Mary Murphy Steak House, Juice Bar in the spa area, the Biergarten serving Colorado sausage, all-beef hotdogs and adult beverages, and a market. Whether you’re in for a quick bite or a full-service gourmet dining experience, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs satisfies every pallet.

I like to grab a quick smoothie for lunch while I soak. My favorite is the Island Sensation with pineapple, banana & coconut milk with a scoop of protein powder. It’s perfectly blended and bursting with flavor.

I dined at the Mary Murphy Steak House that in addition to steak, features soups, salads and seafood, locally sourced as much as possible. I savored the Goat Cheese Fettucine with wild mushrooms and spinach. The goat cheese gave a slight tang to the creamy alfredo sauce that was delicious.

The Cleanliness And Facilities

The spa side of the resort is very clean and beautifully appointed with modern furnishings and lush bathrobes to lounge in while waiting for your spa service. The historic bathhouse is a bit more rustic with a changing area, timed showers and lockers.

Spa

The spa area at Mt. Princeton Resort is the ultimate relaxation, featuring massage, facials, and fitness classes.

Booking a spa service gives you access to all the pools, sauna, steam room, fitness center and juice bar.

I booked a massage, and it was the ultimate in relaxation after soaking in the warm pools. The rooms are dimly lit, instilling a calm, relaxed atmosphere that prepared me for a massage that eased all my aches away.

Was Mt Princeton Hot Springs Worth It?

Mt.Princetonhotsprings-CreeksideSoakingPools

YES! I loved my time at the Mt Princeton Hot Springs and recommend it to anyone looking for relaxation to unwind from life’s hustle and bustle.

From the moment I set foot in this natural wonderland, I was captivated by its sheer beauty and serene ambiance. The therapeutic hot springs worked like magic, melting away all my stress and worries.

Surrounded by the majestic Rockies, the scenery came straight out of a postcard. Whether I soaked in the warm, mineral-rich waters or took a leisurely stroll through the picturesque landscapes, every moment was pure bliss.

What To Bring With You

It’s hard to know what to bring with you to the hot springs, especially for first timers. Although the Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort provides everything a person needs for their visit, bringing a few items with you will save you time and money.

Proper Swimwear

When visiting Mount Princeton Hot Springs, the proper swimwear is essential for your comfort and enjoyment. Opt for a swimsuit that allows you to move freely and provides ample coverage.

Whether you prefer a classic one-piece or stylish swim trunks, choose something that lets you fully embrace the therapeutic waters and indulge in relaxation.

Flip-Flops or Water Shoes

Wearing flip-flops around a hot springs resort is not just a fashion choice; it’s a practical and hygienic decision that enhances your overall experience.

The resort’s natural setting often means navigating various terrains, from sandy paths to wet and slippery surfaces near the hot springs.  Although flip-flops are easier to take on and off, I recommend bringing water shoes if you plan to soak in the Creekside pools as there are large rocks to navigate before you enter the pools and very rocky, sandy creek beds.

Flip-flops or water shoes provide the perfect balance between comfort and functionality, allowing you to move with ease and avoid potential slips or falls. Flip-flops are easier to take off when soaking in the regular pools but water shoes are easier to navigate the rocky creek bottom in the creekside soaking pools.

Sunscreen and Wide-Brimmed Hat

When basking in the heavenly embrace of the Mt Princeton Hot Springs in Colorado, it’s tempting to let the warmth of the sun wash over you. Protecting your skin with sunscreen, however, is of utmost importance.

Due to the high-altitude location and increased exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays, sun burns can happen in less than half an hour leaving those with sensitive skin finishing the day looking redder than a freshly boiled lobster.

The wide brimmed hat is another great option to limit the sun’s intensity on your skin. Make sure to wear it for as long as the sun has direct contact with your head and shoulders.

Sturdy Hiking Shoes

If you plan to explore the surrounding trails and mountain areas, bringing the right hiking shoes can enhance your experience at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs.

Many people stay a few days at the resort and I recommend taking a break from the heated water to hike a few trails in the Rockies. After a long day walking through the mountains, the soothing waters of the hot springs is the perfect way to unwind and relax those muscles.

Refillable Water Bottle

Stay hydrated during your hot springs adventure. The combination of the hot springs’ temperature, elevated altitude, and potential outdoor activities can lead to increased perspiration, making it crucial to replenish fluids regularly.

A refillable water bottle offers a sustainable and eco-friendly solution, minimizing the use of disposable plastic bottles that can harm the environment. Most hot springs resorts advocate for eco-conscious practices, and carrying a reusable water bottle aligns perfectly with their green initiatives.

Cozy Sweater or Jacket

While a hot springs resort may evoke visions of warm, balmy weather, packing a jacket is a savvy move that ensures you’re prepared for all elements of your stay.

Even during the summer months, evenings can get surprisingly chilly, especially with Mount Princeton’s mountainous locale. Having a jacket on hand will keep you cozy and comfortable when the temperatures drop. I like to bring a bathrobe to stay warm when walking between pools or lounging to cool down between soakings.

Mt Princeton Hot Springs Elevation

The resort sits at an approximate elevation of 8,200 feet (2,499 meters) above sea level. As a result, guests are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, immersing themselves in the natural beauty of the region.

However, it’s important to consider the potential effects of high elevation on the body. Some individuals might experience mild altitude-related symptoms like shortness of breath, headaches, or fatigue, especially if they are not acclimatized to higher altitudes.

To fully enjoy their stay, guests are advised to stay well-hydrated, take it easy limit and alcohol consumption during the first day or two, and consult with a healthcare professional if they have any health concerns related to high altitudes.

Mt Princeton Hot Springs Cost and Price

A day pass at Mt Princeton Hot Springs Friday-Sunday is $45 for adults and $35 for children and seniors. Weekdays are $40 for adults and $35 for children and seniors.

If you book a spa service, there is no additional entrance fee. The water slide is an additional $7 for unlimited rides. Locker rental is available for $7.

Lodging prices will vary depending on availability. I recommend joining the mailing list to take advantage of the variable pricing. The pricing is available when you book on the website or by calling (719) 395-2447.

Mt Princeton Hot Springs Hours

The historic bath house, spa and club is open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily. The Infinity Pool is open from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and is available for private rentals.
